Hi, I am looking to upgrade my Era Gold to either Reflex M or Revelation; main piint is whetehr my vinyl collection has any hidden gems that would benefit from the flexibility of the Revelation.

My collection is mainly 70/80s LP, 12" & 7" singles with a few from the mid to late 60's and no 78s etc, mainly pop/rock etc.

Having done as much research in to the various equalisations as I can do any Jazz Clb or Revelation users have any contributions from their own experiences to make as to how many of my likely collection is likely to benefit from the above please?  If not looks like a Reflex M!

Regards
Richard

Have a search around the forum there a coupel of threads on this and the controversy around this and whether it is required from the late 60's on. Roy gregory is convinced Michael Fremmer is most definately not.

I am not sure Graham will produce a version with multiple replay curves of his latest design , although he did say a three way switch is possible so there is hope.

If you have only a couple of mid 60's records then maybe you don't especially need multiple curves  most people whould have switched to RIAA. I have a larger selection of 50's and 60's with some mono and FFFR so I have gone down the Revelation front and does make a difference.

The loan program is is the ideal way to see if the price difference is worth it for your limited number or whether you are going to engage in skip diving for old vinyl.

Echoing Steve's helpful posts, I've never regretted buying a Revelation M. I think a number of my records are non-RIAA, mostly FFRR/Decca ones and some second hand imports, it has lifted them with -11dB HF. I've got a few modern LP's that are very trebly and the -16dB came in handy. The different LF's help on a few by tightening a loose/boomy low end on some older records, I can't prove that's the EQ that was cut.

Even if you were in the MF/RIAA camp, the Revelation is a subtle and very high quality EQ to get the most out of your vinyl.

Happy listening Richard.

Jon

Many thanks. I have my eye on a revelation on eBay - same price as a new reflex m. Just trying to confirm manufacture date/age as I understand spec was changed some time ago (upgraded). Kind regards. Richard

Jon (Fatmangolf) pretty well echoes my experiences with my Revelation M. According to the theory, only a very small percentage of my record collection should be non-RIAA, and they are certainly improved by adjusting the settings, but there are other records in my collection that are improved too, usually because they have a 'thin' sound or are 'base-boomy' (I think I've just made up that phrase Ermm).

Satisfied user of: Revelation M, PSU1-Enigma, Solo SRGII and lots of CuSat50
