I do agree a SMPS compared to a good linear PSU is bad. But if the rest of your equipment can't resolve the difference is it worth worrying about? Grahams products can resolve the difference.
The PSU in the link does look good. I fell foul of a modding company that produced a linear PSU in a aluminium box that got hot (so hot you couldn't keep your hand on it) and cost 3 times that of your linked to PSU. The explanation I got was that the box was the heat sink for the regulators, this was probably true, I would have thought that a bigger heat sink was required to prolong the life of the 'high quality capacitors'. It's made me wary of modding / upgrading companies. |

I have 2 PSU1s, they work fabulously, are permanently switched on, 'plastic' casework and no more than slightly warm to the touch. I think that says it all !

I use a 3M Lautus cable from my Squeezebox Touch to my DAC, definitely better sounding than optical plus I can use 176k4 and 192k HD files. I think it is also better than the mid-range "digital cable" from a three letter brand.
The PSU1 is great sounding and very well made in Britain. |

My vote for the PSU1 too. Reliable, sturdy, and over-specced so it feeds my Solo AND my Reflex.
About coaxial vs. optical... Well, I like optical. There's something good in the concept of my PC with its supply ripple and the noise from its fans being electrically isolated from my DAC. Even better than USB, IMHO, since USB audio causes a noticeable increase in DPC latency (=not so good and reliable packet streaming). |

That's is a good point Luca about isolation of the ground planes, IMO.
It may reassure people to hear that some DAC's have a high quality transformer on the coax input so the SPDIF signal is galvanically isolated. In other words the ground of the source digital device i.e. my Squeezebox Touch is not connected to the ground of the DAC and subsequent audio stages. |
